Innovative Technology Revitalizes Autologous Fat Transfer Procedure
It seems obvious that using a patient’s own fat as a tissue filler would be advantageous. In scientific terms, the use of autologous fat in this manner solves a host of problems, but for aesthetic practitioners it is not so simple. Various factors such as tissue trauma and exposure to air and contaminants significantly reduce the viability of fat harvested via traditional, mechanical methods. As a result, physicians have the unpleasant task of asking patients to endure two uncomfortable procedures all over again mechanical harvesting and implantation of fat. However, Eclipsemed, Ltd. (Dallas, Texas) has revolutionized this procedure with a new device that facilitates the collection of refined, viable autologous fat for improved results.

| Multi-Source RF Signifies New Era in Anti-Wrinkle and Skin Tightening Technology |
EndyMed PRO, from EndyMed Medical Ltd. (Caesarea, Israel) and distributed in the U.S. by Eclipsemed Ltd. (Dallas, Texas), uses a new form of radiofrequency (RF) to reduce wrinkles and avoid the disadvantages of older RF technologies. This new treatment drives vertical energy to reach 9 mm into the target tissue, thus reducing the amount of energy flowing through the
skin’s surface and alleviating the need for cooling. EndyMed was recently FDA cleared to market EndyMed PRO as a non-invasive treatment for facial wrinkles and rhytides in the U.S.

CAL’s 3D Cannula Movement Enhances Tx and Reduces Patient Discomfort
Custom Acoustic Liposuction (CAL) from Medical Alliance Services, Inc. (Dallas, Texas), uses air pressure to activate the cannula, causing a triple, three-dimensional movement (vibration, rotation and reciprocation), rather than relying on the limitations of one-dimensional vibration from ultrasound. This innovative movement, referred to as nutation, allows the cannula to glide through fibrous areas easier, thus providing turbo infiltration of the tumescent solution for better disbursement, less physician fatigue, faster numbing, reduced patient discomfort and a shorter procedure time.

According to a multicenter, singleblind clinical trial, a dramatic improvement in skin retraction and a significant reduction in blood loss are two major advantages associated with the VASER Lipo System from Sound Surgical Technologies LLC (Louisville, Colo.) compared to traditional suction-assisted lipoplasty (SAL). “I wasn’t surprised by the overall results of the study, but I was a bit surprised by the magnitude of skin retraction: a 53% improvement relative to SAL. In my mind, this is fairly dramatic,” said principal investigator Paul Vanek, M.D., a plastic surgeon in private practice in Mentor, Ohio.
